Prancercise: The Art of Physical and Spiritual Excellence is a physical exercise book that truly challenges the mind. The task that it presents the reader is figuring out whether this ostensibly outlandish tome is anything other than an exercise in mischief and absurdity.

One the one hand we have a book whose title is simultaneously silly and pretentious, features cover art with photoshopped images of the author frolicking with a horse, and has the premise of loosely imitating a horse’s gait as a form of exercise. Just have a look at the viral video that sprung Prancercise into internet fame.

On the other hand Prancercise has 81 reader reviews on Amazon (although there is no requirement for reviewers to have actually read the book), and has it’s own Wikipedia page. The author also wears ankle and wrist weights in her videos, conveying the possibility that she’s truly trying to get an fitness benefit from her prancercise sessions.

So do you think the author Joanna Rohrback is completely serious about Prancercise? Or is it a complete farce? Personally, I think she’s definitely aware that most people regard “prancercise” as comedy, but I also feel like she doesn’t exactly mind being the butt of a joke. Let me know what you think in the comments.
